How I told Ben he was going to be a daddy

02 October 2013

Finding out I was pregnant and not having Ben around to share the news with was excruciating.  I needed to tell him. But I also loved the idea of being able to catch him completely off guard with our news.  When you’re trying to get pregnant for almost 2 years you almost take all the shock factor out of everything.  With the IUI’s and the IVF cycle I knew that I wouldn’t be able to surprise him so I never planned out a cute way to share the news. To get the chance so surprise him was so exciting for me.

So as I mentioned before Ben was in Montana when I found out I was pregnant. I did not want to tell him the news over the phone, but I was flying out to Montana to meet him 2 days later so I had some time to try and come up with a plan.

I considered:

·         Making a shirt that said Mom and Baby’s first trip to Montana
·         My sister suggested getting a bib that said “I love Daddy”
·         Just blurting it out

In the end I came up with a plan that I couldn’t guarantee was going to work and I was sweating it out all the way to Montana, which is like 6 hours of flying!

When I got to the airport in MT I bought a onesie in the gift shop. This was what I was worried about, would they even have a gift shop in this tiny airport, much less have onesies!  But they did. I didn’t turn my phone on until I had walked through the gift shop because I didn’t want Ben to come inside and see my walk into the store.

After I purchased the onesie,  I had to wait a few minutes for Ben to get to the airport, so I called him and I asked him to just run inside really quickly to help me with my bag. So when I saw him we hugged and I said here look at this cool thing I got for you. He opened the onesie, looked at it and said oh cool.

So I said do you know why I'm giving you a onesie? He said no and looked at me like I was crazy and I said because I'm pregnant! And he just kept saying no way?! Over and over again. He gave me a huge hug and kiss and had a smile plastered on his face . and I was shaking I was so excited to tell him.

Ever since he's been hugging my midsection and kissing my belly. We did tell his best friend because we were supposed to spend the night camping and drinking. He knows what we've been through and is also unbelievably excited. He and Ben were coming up with baby names and constantly insisting I eat more.

So that’s it!

Honestly, I could have just told him and he would have been just as happy. But I’m excited that we now have a memento from that day.
