Wanna see a pregnant lady shake it?

22 March 2014

Actual video would be scary! Hahaha

Thursday night I went to a surprise birthday party for my Zumba instructor.  She always holds Thursday classes, but this one had streamers and blacklights, and ended with cake and champagne.

She had no idea that everyone would be there early to celebrate her birthday, and the class was a huge! So many people showed up to show their love and support.

My belly made it into a couple of pictures so I thought maybe you could get a good laugh out of it. and of course a shot before even leaving home!  For good measure:)

Random things I’m going to share that maybe I shouldn’t

08 November 2013

I was in yoga last night relaxing my mind and forgetting everything thinking about things I had to tell you….so I was fairly relaxed. I mean how does one really remove everything from their mind?  The only time I can remove random thoughts is when I focus on my breathing. But I’m not actually wanting to talk to you about yoga, so onward!

1)      Ben drooled on me during sex the other night.  I’m very well aware that this is TMI but you guys know way too much about me anyways ,so what’s one more thing. He said he’s just so attracted to my pregnant body. I was both disgusted and amused, because like how gross. He drooled on me!

2)      My sister is moving out. Its time and I’m just excited to get my hands on that bedroom and clean, clean, clean!

3)      I haven’t pooped in days, yet while sitting in the doctor’s office this morning I needed to badly, but I didn’t because I was about to have my lady parts checked out. So I survived.

4)      My nipples. I’ve always had big nipples and now they’re bigger and hard all the time.  I tried to buy an inexpensive new bra from target but there isn’t enough padding to hide my nipple so I’m going to have to continue my search. Any suggestions?

That’s it for now. I should be working but instead I’m sharing with you intimate details of my life. Sorry about that.

I nap, you clean

14 October 2013

That’s what I hoped was happening on Saturday. I worked out, tried to nap, ate lunch and saw a movie with a friend, and then actually took a nap.

While I was doing my thing Ben was supposed to be cleaning.  Let’s just say his idea of cleaning is a little different than mine. ‘Taking care of things’ as he calls it, means making breakfast, rigging up his fishing rods, cleaning out the chicken coop, and folding his laundry.  So he was helpful…but I can’t imagine all of that made him tired?!

But I woke up from a nap with the dogs to see this.

Him taking a nap on the dog bed…I mean it is a baby mattress we turned into a dog bed so its not all that uncomfortable, and I was taking up the entire sofa.

Eh. I guess we’ll all be getting a lot of sleep around my house the next couple of weeks.

Oh and just because they shocked me here is a photo of my newly improved boobs.  Who knew pregnancy = free boob job!

Black light Zumba!

Look what I missed out on:(

Friday morning I woke up with the 24 hour stomach bug from hell. And so look at the party I missed on Saturday.

Avocado Chicken Salad

11 September 2013

I found this recipe on pinterest and thought I would give it a try. I was really really yummy and something that I can see holding up in the refrigerator for a couple of days.  I’m constantly looking for healthy low carb recipes that we can have for dinner, but also have as leftovers for lunch.  I would be happy to eat the same thing for lunch every day but Ben requires variety.

The nice thing about a dish like this is that you can eat it on bread, in a salad, alone in a bowl, over chips….and that’s just what I can come up with off the top of my head.

Can you please ignore the fact that I spelled avocado wrong on my recipe….kthanks.

 Avocado Chicken Salad
1 large avocado
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts
½ cup red onion
2 tbsp chopped cilantro
Juice of 1 lime
Salt and pepper

Season chicken with salt and pepper. Grill chicken. Cut into small pieces and cool.  When I made this last night I cut the chicken into small pieces, put them on a plate, and stuck it in the freezer to get it to cool down enough so that we could have a cold chicken salad for dinner.

In a separate bowl mash up avocado.

In another bowl combine chopped onion, lime juice, salt and pepper, and cilantro. Mix together.

Add cold/room temp chicken to onion mixture.  Stir until combined. Mix in avocado.

I ended up adding a little more salt and pepper to the mixture, which I think was needed.  I'm sure you could also add in some tomato, but i'm not sure leftovers with the tomato would last nearly as long as without.

Enjoy!

Run or Dye Dover

19 August 2013

This Saturday’s race was a complete success!  I picked my friend Janet up and off we went to Dover for our first Run or Dye 5K.

First off let me say that there were an obscene amount of people there! Holy Cow. I believe they said somewhere around 7000 people participated in the race. The proceeds from the event go to the Boys and Girls club of America, so it’s a good cause!

Here is a before shot

And here is after

I have a couple more really cool photos that I’d like to share.

Here I am about ½ way through the race….not to messy yet!

Of course Janet and I needed a drink after the race –

And they do this dye bomb where everything throws their dye up in the air at the same time…which was so cool to be apart of, although I like couldn’t breathe for a minute!

Also race etiquette: don’t smoke at the finish line, I have no desire to inhale your smoke, ever.

Also, if you’re walking a race move out of the way so the runners can run! I swear I ran in zig zags the entire time.  I actually overheard a lady telling her friend that you’re not really supposed to RUN the Run or Dye, it’s a walking event…but some very young girls like to run it. Um no, it’s called Run or Dye, not Walk or Dye?

Next time this is in your area I highly suggest you participate. I wish I would have brought my niece with me because there were a lot of young kids there and they loved it.  The dye is all organic and washes off so you don’t need to worry about it harming you or your munchkins.

Run or Dye

16 August 2013

Tomorrow morning I’m running a fun 5K with my friends!  My friend Janet is there checking us in right now.

Whose done it? wish me luck I haven’t been running regularly since right before my egg retrieval in July, eek!

Ben - not quite in the clear

27 June 2013

But we’re getting there.  So he does have a tumor on his left femur but the orthopedist isn’t thinking its anything weird.  It’s about the size of a nickel and just looks like fluid, but he’s getting sent for another MRI and then the doctor will look at it to determine if there is anything weird about its shape or size.  Assuming all is fine (and we are assuming that) he has a follow up appointment schedule for 6 months from now just to verify he isn’t having any issues with that area and that the tumor hasn’t grown.

Thank you everyone for all the kind words of support, text messages, and phone calls:)

Update on Me

25 June 2013

We met with the RE this morning to sign all of our final consent paperwork for IVF.  It’s really happening.

I started taking birth control last week to regulate my system, and on Sunday I stop taking it.  Then on July 2nd I’ll get all my baseline blood work done, which basically just shows if all my levels are on track and not out of whack.

Like how thorough my explanations are?  J

I’m currently feeling good.  I was a bit emotional several times last week and I’m sure that’s because of the birth control, but I was able to control it and continue on.

My body is in great shape, mentally I feel wonderful and relaxed….so it’s just a matter of time.

I want this to work. My sister in law had her baby girl on Sunday night and I got to meet her last night. I’m so in love.  I want that for Ben and I with every piece of me.

Update on Ben

While I was away last week he had an x-ray and another MRI and they said he has a tumor on his left femur.  So it’s not great news, but they don’t seem to think it’s anything serious.

He called me while I was on vacation last week to tell me and I cried.  I want to be strong for him, but I am just feeling so defeated right now.  He doesn’t know how scared I am, I don’t want to stress him out even more than I am, I’m just listening when we wants to talk about it. Please keep him in your thoughts.

He goes tomorrow to see a specialist in Philadelphia and hopefully we can get some answers.  He has to go alone since I need to save up my out of work time for IVF, which starts next Tuesday.

I feel like the hits just don’t stop coming

13 June 2013

I’ve been MIA.  Work is crazy and I’m going to be on vacation all next week. I need the time off. I need a break to get my body ready for IVF and to decompress a little bit.

So several small things.
  • The chickens are great and getting big.  Their coop is holding up well but I already think we’ll need to expand their home.  I forgot to mention when I was talking about the coop that I ordered it through Ebates.  Have you ever used ebates before?  It’s a website that you join and then anytime you do online shopping you go to Ebates website first, log in, and then connect to the website you want to shop on through Ebates.  If you do this than you’ll earn money back on your purchase.  So I earned 5% back on my purchase of the coop and I have a check coming to me in the mail….awesome, right?!
Check it out here –  Ebates

Or you can link to it on the side of my blog. If you join through this link than they’ll send me a little perk, so that would be appreciated!

  • I’m totally ready to start IVF. As soon as my period starts I go on birth control to regulate my cycle and then my first blood draw for the IVF cycle is already scheduled for July 2nd.
  • And we have a bit of a health scare happening with Ben right now.  Remember he went to the urologist because he had an infection, but then everything looked good with the exception of a small trace of blood in his urine.  Well because of the blood, which they said isn’t uncommon, they sent him for an MRI. Well apparently the MRI showed a growth of some sort on his hip and they asked that he come in today to see them and review the results. I’m scared.  I pray its nothing serious, but I don’t like that they called him and said come in tomorrow to review your test results.
Did I tell you I’m about to have a week off of work??!! haha yes I did.

RE: my nutritional evaluation

30 May 2013

It’s going well.

Explain to me why people that are on a low carb diet fill up on cheese instead of fruit.  I eat fruit all the time and there are more carbs in fruit than in cheese.  I talked to one of the ladies I work with and she said, just put cheese on your chicken it doesn’t have many carbs.

How does that even make sense! That’s why I’ve never understood a low carb diet. These people cut fruit out of their diets but eat lots of cheese? I’d rather eat fruit and bread than fill up on cheese.

I thought I would do good at this but I might just fail miserably.  But know that I will ask this question to the nutritionist at the RE’s office that I have to meet and review my daily intakes with.

So that’s that. Also I feel full and bloated and that doesn’t seem right. I’m trying to up my protein and I just don’t think my body likes it.

Our weekend was a whirlwind!

29 April 2013

It flew by!  I love my weekend when I don’t do anything, but I almost equally as much love busy busy weekends.

Quick recap – Friday drinking with some friends. These are my two photos of the night…so yeah.

Saturday – I went to the library and then went to a zumbathon to raise money for Cancer research.

The only crappy thing about that was that it was in the middle of the day so it kinda screwed up  my timeline.  I rushed home to eat something and then went out shopping for flowers!! Love love.  I was able to get most of my decorative flowers planted and the planters on my front porch done.  And we pulled weeds. Gah that is a terrible thing to have to do.  When Ben got home we got started on the garden.  He had put down a tarp on the yard to kill the grass where the garden was going to go and we needed to rototill it and get all the grass up.

That was enough for Saturday.  I don’t think I sat down until 6:30.

Sunday Ben went fishing and I went grocery shopping and cleaned the house.  When he got home we went and bought all our veggies and fruits for the garden and got planting!  That was a chore, and we really need to refine the garden, but we had to get everything in the ground so we put up a temporary fence and will work on the garden bed itself this year.

I also put up a fence around our outdoor HVAC condenser. Every time I drive up to the house I see it and it drives me bonkers, so now its hidden!!  That is on the side of the house where I’m working on adding a flower bed, so its not nearly finished yet. But hey I’m only one person!

Last night I fell asleep at 7:00:( oops!  but so did Ratchet!

It was raining this morning so I didn’t get to take pictures of some of my projects, so I’ll post them tomorrow!

Its Tuesday

19 February 2013

Which means I get to see my niece Lilly tonight!  Every Tuesday night we have family dinner at my in-laws house.  I just love it.  And I love that Lilly is getting so big and walking and sooo playful!  I would post a picture of her but I’m not sure that my sister in law would appreciate me posting pictures of her little girl on the interwebz.

Today I feel great.  Last night I had my RIPPED workout, which I always love.  My body is sore in a good way.   And today I’m listening to an audio book while I work!  I hope everyone else has a great Tuesday!!

I love nuts

30 January 2013

(Insert Janet and Brittany saying: that’s what she said)

I snack on nuts all day long. My obsession started during my first Whole Living Challenge and I haven’t looked back.  I just looked in my drawer at work and I have 4 different kinds of nuts piled in there: dry roasted, almonds, sunflower seeds (for salads), and peanuts mixed with raisins. Of course next to my detox tea, I love that stuff even when I’m not detoxing!

See it’s a problem.  I could kill a jar of nuts in a sitting.

Pay no attention to all the other crap happening in the drawer…its messy, I know.

Not all that interesting over here

15 January 2013

I’m boring. I work, sleep, and go to doctor’s appointments. I can’t even workout right now because I twisted my ankle working out on Saturday.

Several other things:

1)      I think we may need to tell Ben’s dad about everything.  Ben works with him and depending on when the IUI is scheduled, we will have to spill the beans.  Ben wouldn’t be able to just say, I have something to take care of, or something vague like that,  his dad will insist on knowing specifics.  I have a bit of anxiety about this.  I love my in-laws but I feel like I will be judged and critiqued if they know we’re struggling with infertility.  That sounds crazy, especially if you know my in-laws, but in general they are very anti medical intervention.  And secondly, and this is the worst part of the whole thing, this isn’t my fault.  We’re struggling with male infertility here, and I know Ben could never tell his family that, but I also don’t want to be accused of being the source of the problem when it seems, I am not the source of the problem.

Anyone who has struggled with infertility knows that what I’ve just said out loud above is a huge no-no.  I’m supposed to say it’s not either of our faults, it’s our problem not yours, your sperm may be the issue but this is our problem.….basically blaming the other person is wrong. And I know that. Don’t you think I know that?

2)      I believe my coworker just checked out my ass. I mean I saw him do it. I was walking away and turned back around quickly to see him staring at my ass. That’s uncomfortable. I like my ass, but I don’t really want to think/know that my coworkers are looking at it.

3)      I have to go to a going away party tonight for someone who already threw HERSELF a going away party.  She left town and then came back and is actually leaving town this weekend. So on a Tuesday night I’m going to a party. And I’m detoxing so I don’t know what I’ll eat. I offered to bring veggies and hummus…so I’ll be able to eat that.

That’s it. Do I sound like a bitch today? I would love to just go home and get some reading done. I’m in the middle of Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins and it’s a great read.

How to cook a spaghetti squash

04 January 2013

I don’t recall the first time I had spaghetti sqsash, I believe my mom made it quite a bit growing up.  And the way she cooked it was so easy.  We were at a friend’s house recently and they were making it for dinner and our friend Todd was manning the oven and checking on the spaghetti squash every 20 minutes.  I was surprised by this method of cooking it because it can be done in a much shorter time span.  I explained to him how I did it and he had no idea that it could be such an easy dinner to make.  So here is a how to, we’ll at least one way it can be done.
Cut spaghetti squash in half
Scoop out the loose seeds and flesh on the inside of the squash.  This is just like when you’re cleaning out a pumpkin, less slimy, but same principal.
Turn upside down in a pyrex dish or in some corning wear. Make sure whatever dish you use can be put in the microwave.  Put the squash in the dish and then fill with water. The squash I used was smaller than normal so I was able to fit both halves in the dish. Normally I can only fit one half in at a time.
Fill dish with about a 1/4” – 1/2" of water and then cover with cling wrap.

Put in the microwave and cook for 10 minutes.  Depending on the size of your squash this time may vary, but if you’re only cooking 1/2 of a larger squash that should be fine.
Once its finished cooking, pull your dish out of the microwave but be very careful, the dish and the steam under that cling wrap is going to be quite hot.

Take squash out of the water and let sit to cool for a few minutes.  The next step is to scrape out the ‘spaghetti’ with a fork and you don’t want the squash too hot or you would be able to handle it.

Put ‘spaghetti’ into a dish and serve!  I like mine with pasta sauce or just some olive oil and s&p.

Also, just an FYI, my husband is never convinced he wants spaghetti squash, but as soon as he starts eating it he gobbles it right down.  So if the people in your life are hesitant at least make sure they try it because it’s not as scary as it seems.

Turkey Fitness Blast 2012

26 November 2012

My R.I.P.P.E.D. and Zumba instructor teaches a lot of exercise classes. She is amazing.

Well for Thanksgiving, she and several other instructors from the area taught a huge free workout class.  It started at 8am and didn’t end until 9:45.  They did a couple of songs of each of the workouts that they offer: R.I.P.P.E.D., Zumba, Kickboxing, Pilates, and hip hop dance.  I had an amazing time and felt so good going into Thanksgiving dinner.

I think part of the purpose of the class was to introduce you to the other workouts that most don’t generally do.  I did like the pilates, but honestly people I’m about as white as it gets and hip hop dance just isn’t my class. But it was fun to do it.  The thing I didn’t love was that there were over 100 people at the class! We were packed in there and it was like one of those huge zumba classes that you see advertised on TV.  That is totally not my thing.  I like my normal class of 15 ish people.

Anywhooo I just hopped onto Facebook only to see that they posted pictures of the class.  Can you find me?  I’ll jump on Photoshop tonight and circle my head but until then here they are.  I’m in the front right of the pictures, gray tank and black capri pants.

Thank you to all that attended!

p.s. see the lady in the last picture here in the Ravens shirt.  The entire class she kept yelling, “woop, woop!”.  OMG I was not a fan of that! Ha  but she was excited.  For the longest time I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from and then when I realized it was her I almost died laughing.

OMGosh how is it Tuesday?

20 November 2012

Seriously. I think yesterday flew by and I’m sure today and tomorrow are going to do the exact same thing!  This weekend was amazing, relaxing, full of cleaning and reading.  My house is ready for guests and the first one arrives tonight!  It’s my husband’s best friend, the guy that introduced us, and I haven’t seen him in over a year.  I know my husband is super excited for his arrival.

And me, I just want to be at home. Cuddled up with the dogs and husband, waiting on the holiday to arrive! But I’m not. And I won’t be because I work full time.  But that’s OK because I’m going to take Friday off and we’re going to go to upstate New York for the weekend.

On Thanksgiving day I’m going to be a busy beaver.  We’re not having everyone over to our house, we’re going to the in-law’s, but I am helping my mother in law make quite a bit of food.

The dishes I’m bringing are: (recipes included, clicky below)

Turkey – one of two. Mother in law is making the other one
Cheesy veggie casserole – quantity 2. They’re already made and in the freezer I’ll just need to pop em in the oven!
Mashed Potatoes – 10lbs. I actually even bought crockpot liners so that we won’t have to even clean the crockpot! I’m really making things as easy as possible for myself this year.
Stuffing – yummy my mouth is currently watering

one of the apps – brie and onion puff

And I’m certain it’s all going to be delicious!! Can’t you tell I’m a little bit of a control freak?  I mean I’m sure Mother in-law could have taken care of like the stuffing…but then I’m sure it would end up with like mandarin oranges in it. And while I’m not opposed to that, I like traditional food on thanksgiving not all mucked up with fruit.  If I’m going to eat stuffing instead of my midday apple I don’t want fruit in my stuffing. Know what I mean?

Something else I’m excited for on Thursday, a FREE workout class at 8am. And the class is 90 minutes long….for FREE!  That means I’ll wake up, throw the turkey in the oven, and get my sweat on….and then I’ll feel guilt free as I drink and eat the day away!

I hope to be back by tomorrow but If I’m not I hope everyone has a very happy holiday!
